First of all, I’m not
sponsored by Lanitz Aviation – or anyone else... Lanitz Aviation kindly offers
me free freight on my orders but are not requesting anything in return. What I’m
doing here, on my blog, is sharing my personal experience with this product just
like I’m doing for the Simonini engine.
Oracover used for model aircrafts |
In
reality is an extremely strong (high tech) coated polyester fabric developed for general aviation. Oratex UL600 is lighter than traditional aircraft covering systems 90 to 120 g/m² all
inclusive (depending on color) and the difference might
be several kg even for a smaller aircraft. I assume that this is one of the reasons why the Solar Impulse design team chose Oratex fabric as the cover material...
No
dope, no paint, no sanding, no harmful chemical exposure, no smell and no
fire hazard. I will be able to do the tail plane and rudders in my office and
no problems to turn on the heater and close the doors when doing the fuselage
and the wings in my workshop!
No paint that will peel off, no cracks, not flammable and easy to repair even in the field.
For more information: The
North American distributor of Oratex has a very informative website where you
can find more information and some videos. Try also Lanitz Aviation's website and searching Oratex on YouTube .
How much material did you purchase? What was the cost? Thanks.
ReplyDeleteYou will find the price on the Oratex website (see links) or at your local retailer (links on the Oratex site under General Aviation). I'm using 900 mm UL600 for the fuselage. I have not decided yet if I will use 2 times 1800 mm or a combination of 1800 mm and 900 mm for the wings. I hope the experience from doing the fuselage will help me to decide...
ReplyDeleteHello, I have bought an avid flyer and it wanted that you were orientating me a bit, all the orocotex I need and glue. Regards and graces. my email is. alpinev12@hotmail.com
ReplyDeleteHi Agustin! Congratulations, it is a lovely little plane. It is too early to say how much Oratex is needed. So far I have only got the Oratex for the fuselage. I will buy what I need for the wings when I start with them and when I have decided how I will do them. It will be a little complicated as the only solid surface if the leading edge tube. I might be using a combination of 900 mm and 1800 mm. I'll tell about it on this site when I get there. The estimation of glue required is 2 liters (estimation done by Mr Lanitz) and with what I have used so far it appears to be about right.
ReplyDeleteGood luck with your project!
Regards,
Fred
