Fred, I am rebuilding a 23 year old Avid Flyer and am interested in seeing how Oratex does on your plane's wings. Do you plan to rib stitch? Your work looks very professional. I hope to do as well.
Hi John, you might have followed this discussion on the US Avid Flyer forum (topic 37404)... I made some comparative resistance tests between the old fabric on the ribs and Oratex glued to the rib. The original glue was almost gone and made little resistance when pulling at 90% on the fabric. BUT the fabric was still stuck to the rib in an area that should have been rib stitched but was not. The same test with Oratex and it ripped of after 50 times the load that ripped off the old fabric. With the slow speed of the Avid flyer, 1 inch ribs and Oratex I see no reasons to rib stitch. But this is only my opinion and not a recommendation... Regards Fred
